This large-scale installation has been circling the globe, lighting up spaces from Bilbao to Beijing, including abbeys and swimming pools, exciting and inspiring visitors along the way.
It did not disappoint. Quite a surreal sight set against the speculator setting of Winchester Cathedral.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.
Festival of the Moon’ Winchester Cathedral – Artists and Makers Members of the Artful Collective.
We have various social meets ups for our members to attend throughout the year. This February we visited Winchester Cathedral to see a touring artwork by talented UK artist Luke Jerram.
Already experienced by over 20 million people worldwide, the moon will finally arrive in Winchester for the very first time in February 2024.
Previously exhibited at the National History Museum it was dubbed one of the most popular exhibits of all time, after 2 million+ visitors congregated there to appreciate its beauty.
As you can see, it wasn’t just the installation to see. Winchester Cathedral is rich with history and inspiration.
This was the second time we were lucky enough to see Antony Gormley’s sculpture Sound II in the crypt and this time it was flooded.
