The Guild Wiltshire, (formerly Wilton Shopping Village) is on a journey of transformation, bringing together a vibrant community of independent traders, makers and doers. Celebrating Wilton’s rich heritage of skills and craftsmanship in a place where people can enjoy shopping, eating and spending time together. Situated on the outskirts of Salisbury.
As Artful Collective we have been exploring the possibility of adopting a space within The Guild portfolio to create a Maker Space – an energetic, collaborative hub for artists, designers and creatives to work.

What Is It?
A dynamic creative studio space occupied by artists, designers and makers in the heart of The Guild Wiltshire’s new vibrant retail and leisure experience.
Makers at the Guild would offer customers a connected experience where they can see artisans at work, experience different skills and crafts, and buy unique, handmade items.
For Makers it offers studio space which brings with it a direct link to customers and a peer community with other creatives.

What Would It Look Like?
The studios would be fronted by a gallery shop which would exhibit pieces by the residents and other invited artists and makers. This would be open to the public. This gallery area would have windows or glass onto the studios behind providing a link between the public and private spaces, and offering a glimpse of ‘behind the scenes’ creativity.
The studios themselves wouldn’t be open to the public, except for open studio events.
The studios will consist of a number of spaces to suit different requirements and budgets. We envisage:
- A semi open plan area broken up by dividers to create 7-8 different units
- 2-4 lockable private studios.
- A community space with versatile furniture to allow hot desking, workshops, meetings
- A multi use space for workshops, exhibitions and large scale work.
- A small kitchenette for making tea/coffee etc.
- A shared sink/cleaning area
What Would it Cost?
- Studios would likely range between £300-£600 per month, all inclusive. With a years contract being the most likely commitment.
- Multi use space could be hired for workshops and exhibitions for £100 per day, with discounts for studio residents.
- Hot desking space would cost approx £10 per day, with options for membership for regular users.
Who is it For?
We want to attract a diverse range of creatives to occupy the space. Fine artists, jewellers, sculptors, leatherworkers, photographers, designers, illustrators etc. We’re looking for people with a commitment to being part of a collaborative community and to developing their creative practice.
In line with The Guild’s emphasis on heritage, we would like to reserve a number of studios for heritage crafts. Equally for emerging artists or graduates.
