Susie Highfield

Ceramics

Susie’s sculptures use interconnecting rings that she throws on the wheel.  Each piece explores those relationships in our lives, whether people come into our lives for a Reason, Season or Lifetime.  She uses the methods of Smoke and Raku firing to add an element of unpredictability and movement to the pieces.  The links can be moved into different positions creating an interactive live sculpture. The flow of interconnecting circles have the ability to change their interaction with one another, this forms the bases of all her pieces.

About The Artist

It was in 2011 that when Susie rediscovered clay.  University gave her an introduction to pottery as she trained to be an Art teacher.  However her career took Susie away from this great medium.  She can honestly say it has been like coming home and loves the versatility of clay!  Susie now has a studio set up and spend most days lost in exploring the possibilities of this medium.  She has had to let go of the idea that you have to create a master piece every time.  Susie says “they happen every now and again, meantime you’re learning along the way”.
