Zoe brings metal to life with the luminous beauty of enamel. Working primarily on sterling silver—though occasionally on copper—she layers transparent enamel over hand-engraved surfaces, allowing light to dance through, creating depth and movement in each piece. Zoe usually works on a small scale, for example necklaces and earrings, but she also makes silver boxes and bowls.
About The Artist
Zoe first encountered enamelling in 1972 and returned to it 2018 after retiring from a long career in programming. She was taught mainly by Sheila MacDonald and Jane Short on a number of short courses at West Dean, she has also received a great deal of support from the Guild of Enamellers. Zoe works in a very small studio at home – inspiration comes from many and varied things – frost on a car windscreen, going to see the Burnt City, old books of flower drawing, a pavement in Alicante.
