Pottery & Ceramics
Botanical Casting Workshops with Josephine Butler of Sentimental Casting
Josephine’s art is inspired by the beautiful nature and coastline of the south of England. Botanical and coastal plaster relief is an artform in which nature can be captured in time and preserved. An impression is made from foliage, flowers or beach combing finds, by arranging a composition onto clay and then pressing. Once the materials are removed a plaster cast is then formed. The impression left behind in the clay becomes a mould for the plaster to be poured into. Once dry the cast is cleaned and tidied, then further washing and drying time is required to ensure strength and readiness. The time, process and detail taken in this craft means each piece is bespoke and unique.
Josephine offers workshops where using local, seasonal flowers & foliage participants can enjoy the process of creating their own plaster relief roundel.
